Dell Wyse Enables Microsoft Lync To Be Deployed On Its Thin Clients

Rate this Entry
To complement Microsoft’s new Office 2013 Customer Preview announcement, Dell Wyse worked with Microsoft to enable Microsoft Lync to be deployed on its thin clients.

This new thin client deployment option will allow Dell Wyse customers with investments in VDI technology to deploy Lync, including IM, presence, conferencing and enterprise voice and video. This Lync plugin allows use of any Lync certified USB audio and video devices and redirects voice and video traffic from the virtualized desktop directly to the thin client running the plugin locally. The combination of the plugin and Microsoft RemoteFX (RDP 8) results in lower bandwidth utilization and makes server scalability comparable to a regular desktop deployment with an optimal communication experience.

Dell Wyse has tested and validated the Lync VDI solution using RemoteFX (RDP 8) over the following mobile and desktop thin clients: Z90D7, R90LE7, X90M7. Additional protocol validation on several other Dell Wyse thin clients will also be completed to give customers more deployment options.

“Dell Wyse has worked with our product team to ensure an excellent end user experience while using Lync on VDI with Dell Wyse endpoints. We are encouraged by the results to continue working together in enabling a broader choice of platforms as well as the current installed base of endpoints,” said Jerome Berniere, Senior Product Marketing Manager, at Microsoft Corp.

This is a positive announcement but a Link to how this is achieved would be helpful. We are currently testing Wyse Z90D7 terminals with VM View Horizon and Lync 2013 and cannot get this to work or find instructions on how this deployment can be achieved.

Assistance needed urgently before we are forced down the PC route
